Patchwork llamas & other animals

Birchill Farm and Cottages has been run by Margaret and Simon Mathews for the past 12 years. Together they’ve created 11 luxury boutique boltholes for discerning families with pre-school aged children. With play facilities that are second to none – including outdoor musical play and an enormous games barn – it’s no surprise that the luxury, bespoke and kid friendly cottages have been awarded 5 stars and a gold award by Enjoy England. What Margaret and Simon really needed next, though, was a brand to communicate the values of their lovely product.

A PERSONAL TOUCH | It was the stunning natural landscape and the child friendly element of the cottages that stood out to us as the elements to focus on, so we came up with a design that evokes the patchwork layout of fields surrounding the farm in Langtree. The patchwork element also felt bang-on to communicate the child friendly nature of the business and using material that was hand-picked by Margaret, the core idea was created. Part of the work also involved updating the name of the business to Birchill Farm and Cottages and finding a modern typeface to appeal to the target audience.

THE RESULT | The new brand is contemporary and friendly, and a breath of fresh air in the competitive cottage holiday market. Margaret is making our branding ideas three dimensional, creating handmade soft toys for the childrens’ rooms, just like the ones that our designer Chris, originally drew.

‘Thank you, Salt Media. From the initial phone call through to the finished product, the branding exercise has been a resounding success. Onwards and upwards with our next project with you – a new website. We know we’re in good hands.’

NEW WEBSITE  | The new brand new website was lunched in February 2016 and the web stats are off the chart! Like the rest of the branding it is contemporary and heavily image led. It highlights their fabulous accommodation, children’s play facilities and friendly farm animals as well as what to see and do during your stay. We wish Simon and Margaret every success for a brilliant 2016 season. See the new website here.
